In Uttar Pradesh, more than 700 athletes from across the country are taking part in the ongoing 54th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships at PAC Stadium Lucknow which started from 5th and will continue till June 8th. <br/><br/>The meet, dubbed as 'selection trials' for the Indian aspirants hoping to book a ticket for the upcoming Commonwealth Games at Glasgow next month, is generating high octane performances both on track and field. It is the third time that Lucknow is hosting the senior nationals after 2001. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that a large number reigning inter-state champions are trying to defend their titles and try their luck to get a berth in the Glasgow-bound Indian squad. <br/><br/>Prominent among the other champion athletes include sprinters Anirudh Gujar (Maharashtra) and Asha Roy (West Bengal), middle distance star Tintu Luka (Kerala), long distance runners Kheta Ram (Rajasthan), O.P Jaisha (Punjab) and Preeja Sreedharan (Kerala), long jumpers Kumaravel Premkumar (Tamil Nadu) and Mayookha Johny (Kerala), hammer throwers Chandrodaya Narayan Singh (Uttar Pradesh) and Manju Bala (Rajasthan), javelin throwers Krishna Kumar Patel and Suman Devi (both UP) to name a few.<br/><br/>Sprint queen PT Usha, who has been training India's medal hopeful in the 800 metres, Tintu Luka, arrived a couple of days in advance at Lucknow. Luka, the National record holder in the 800 metres event had missed the medal in the previous CWG despite a brilliant start in the race.
