4% growth needed in agrarian sector to achieve 10% GDP: Joshi

Rural Development and Panchyatiraj Minister Dr C P Joshi has said that four per cent growth in agrarian sector is needed to achieve the goal of 10 per cent growth in GDP.Inaugurating a workshop on decentralisation of power by Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Development Studies at Thiruvanathapuram he said the 73rd amendment of the Constitution needs to be implemented in letter and spirit. He urged Kerala Government to implement the flagship programmes of the central government more effectively. The minister said that Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Gurantee Scheme has tremendous potential to reduce rural unemployment and poverty. He said 70,000 crore rupees have been spent under the scheme during the last four years.
