Vigyan Prasar (VP) a National Institute for Science and Technology Communication under the Department of Science and Technology in collaboration with National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) will be holding the 3rd Rashtriya Vigyan Chalchitra Mela and Competition (RVCM), 2013 concurrently with 100th session of Indian Science Congress at Kolkata during 3rd to7th January next year. This has been announced by Dr. R. Gopichandran, Director, VP and Mr. G.S. Rautela, Director General, NCSM at the press conference at Science City, Kolkata on Wednesday. RVCM is a competition to felicitate recognized and encourages science film producers and production of science and technology related films and videos. The competition has 4 categories of which science and technology film made by students is a category introduced for the first time this year. RVCM is trying to achieve science popularization. ‘People should know science and able to think better scientifically`, said Dr. Gopichandran. He also said, science communication to movies are very important and describe Chalchitra Mela as marriage of science and science communication. RVCM is a festival-cum-competition for Indian filmmakers only. The completion will have Golden Beaver Award consisting of cash prize of 1 lakh rupees, Silver Beaver Award consisting of 50,000 thousand rupees and Bronze Beaver Award consisting of 30,000 rupees. The last date for sending entries is 15th of next month.
