Altogether 37 Olympians would participate in the city leg of Olympic Day Run (ODR) to be held in Kolkata on June 30. The sacred Olympic flame was first lighted in Athens onJune 23, 1984, and since then ODR is held on any day between June 23 to 30 every year in the major cities of theworld. The Kolkata leg will see Olympians like Gurbux Singh, Paltu Roy, Soma Biswas and Dola Banerjee, among others, inthe prestigious run, which would commence at Rabindra Sarobar and culminate at Kshudiram Anushilan Kendra. The 10-kilometre run would be flagged off by West Bengal Sports Minsiter Madan Mitra, while Governor M K Narayanan would preside over the closing ceremony where all the living state athletes would be felicitated. State Agriculture and Marketing Minsiter Arup Roy, City Mayor Shovan Chatterjee and sports dignitaries would be present in this august function.
