In Morocco, at least 36 people were killed and 60 injured when a minaret collapsed in a mosque in the central town of Meknes. According to Moroccan state television, the accident took place at the Berdieyinne mosque in Meknes' old city during Friday prayers. The TV report said the minaret collapsed due to heavy rains which lashed the region for several days. The minaret is said to have been four centuries old.
