36 DU colleges decide not to release cut-off list untill FYUP issue resolved

Amid continued standoff between the Delhi University and University Grants Commission several colleges have decided not to come out with cutoff list for admission scheduled to begin tomorrow.

Delhi University Principal's Association in a resolution passed on Monday said that 36 colleges have decided not to release cut-off list untill the issue is resolved.

Earlier in the day, the government made it clear that it will not intervene in the row over Delhi University's four-year undergraduate programme.

It asked the UGC and DU to resolve the matter between themselves and ensure that precious time of students is not wasted.

Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani held two meetings with UGC Chairman Ved Prakash, a day after the higher education watchdog directed DU and all 64 colleges under it to conduct admission only under the three-year undergraduate programme or face consequences.

The four-year undergraduate programme, introduced last year, has drawn flak from both students and teachers but the University has held that it will not be scrapped.

Different student unions today staged protests in front of Human Resources Development Ministry and DU against the varsity's decision to press for the programme.

They demanded its immediate withdrawal and sought the Ministry's intervention in the matter.

They also demanded that BJP implement its electoral promise of scrapping the programme after coming to power at the Centre.
