35,000 lower court employees goes on indefinite strike in Maharashtra

Over 35,000 employees of lower courts in Maharashtra went on an indefinite strike from today over the demands of better salaries and other administrative changes. Mr. Rajan Desle, Secretary of the All Maharashtra Judicial Employees Union (AMJEU) informed AIR that all the class C and D employees are participating in the strike. Last year, the Supreme Court had directed the state to follow the recommendations of the Shetty Commission, which had called for changes in the promotion and salary policy for judicial employees. Mr. Desle said that the employees will continue the strike till the recommendations are implemented. The strike has affected court proceedings across the state.
