In Assam, around 350 United People's Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) militant cadres, including its leaders, are set to lay down arms formally at Diphu stadium in Karbi Anglong district on 14th of this month. Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, State Governor J B Patnaik and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi are likely to witness the official arms surrender ceremony of the outfit.According to official sources, the outfit will deposit more than 160 sophisticated arms to the Government. The UPDS outfit will disband itself in the same function and announce joining the mainstream of the society. AIR Guwahati Correspondent reports that the arms laying down ceremony is a result of tripartite peace accord signed between the Centre and the State Government, and the Karbi outfit United People's Democratic Solidarity on 25th of the last month.
