In Mizoram, about 35 percent polling was recorded till 12.30 P.M. for the lone Lok Sabha seat and by-poll to the Hrangturzo Assembly seat. Long queues were seen in some polling stations in Aizawl with voters waiting for their turn to cast their vote. Polling in the state will continue upto 5 p.m. Voting in the state was scheduled for Wednesday but it was postponed for today.
Ruling Congress nominee and sitting MP C. L. Ruala and his main rival Robert Romawia Royte, an independent candidate sponsored by the United Democratic Front (UDF), an alliance of eight opposition parties were among the first to cast their votes. While Ruala cast his vote at Tuikhuahtlang polling station in Aizawl South-II assembly segment at 7 AM, Royte cast his ballot at Chhinga Veng polling station in Aizawl East-II Assembly segment around the same time.
