In Jammu and Kashmir, at least 35 people are feared dead in a road mishap in Kishtwar district. The incident occurred at Kandni on Thathri-Kishtwar road late on Friday when an overcrowded minibus skidded off a mountainous road and fell into river Chenab. Two passengers swam to safety. Survivors said that about 35 people were travelling in the ill-fated bus. Sources at Zonal Police Headquarters in Jammu, however, said that about 25 passengers are feared dead in the mishap. The Police said the driver lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a sharp curve on kutcha side of the road and it plunged into river Chenab at Wardha bridge near Kandni on Thathri-Kishtwar . The ill-fated vehicle was on way from Thathri to Kishtwar, when it met with an accident at-least 11 kilometers away from Thathri. About 35 people including driver and cleaner were feared killed as there was no chance of survival of any occupant as the vehicle completely submerged into the deep waters. Authorities immediately launched the rescue operation which was, however, suspended due to darkness. The operation to locate any possible survivor would be resumed today. Meanwhile, J&K Governor N N Vohra, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and several Ministers have expressed shock over the tragic road accident and expressed grief over loss of lives.
