34 people have died in last few days due to spread of cholera in Rayagada district of Orissa. The tentacles of deadly cholera have been spreading in Bisamcuttack, Gudari, Kashipur and Kalyansinghpur blocks of the district due to usage of contaminated drinking water.Even as the Orissa Government has so far downplayed the issue saying the deaths are due to diarrhoea, the Regional Medical Research Centre at Bhubaneswar has confirmed 'Vibrio Cholerae' bacteria in the rectal of samples collected from Rayagada district.According to unofficial sources, 78 people have died so far due to cholera while more than 600 people are still in a critical condition. A 20-member medical team has been dispatched to the district for immediate treatment of the affected tribals. Meanwhile, Health and Family Welfare Minister of Orissa, Prasanna Acharya, has suspended to doctors for not joining their place of posting in the cholera-affected Rayagada district.
