33,000 kms of roads constructed under PMGSY

Around 33 thousand kilometers of roads have been constructed under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, PMGSY which is 67.53 per cent of the annual target. It means that average construction of road is 111 kilometer per day. <br/><br/>Rural Development Ministry said, the annual target of constructing nearly 49 thousand kilometers of rural roads by the end of the current financial year will be achieved. It said, the construction work picks up from January to May every year.<br/><br/>The Ministry said, another major achievement has been the use of green technologies and non-conventional materials in construction of roads under PMGSY because they are low cost, non-polluting and labour friendly. <br/><br/>It said, in the last two years, more than two thousand 634 kilometers of roads have been constructed using green technology. The Ministry said, in the first 14 years of the scheme from 2000 to 2014, only 806 kilometers of roads were constructed using these technologies and materials.
