Thirty-three people, including 22 militants, were killed in clashes in Pakistan's restive tribal belt bordering Afghanistan while three rebels were apprehended by security forces in the northwestern Swat valley. Senior officials said in Islamabad that nine members of an anti-Taliban militia and six militants were killed in fighting in the Orakzai Agency. The clashes broke out when Taliban fighters attacked homes and trenches built by the tribal militia in Orakzai, 200 kilometers from Peshawar. Local tribal elder Malik Sharif was among those killed by the militants. In the Waziristan tribal region, 15 militants and two soldiers were killed in clashes that erupted when the Taliban raided Boya Narai post in Jandola sector last night. Meanwhile, the Security forces carried out search and clearance operations at several places, including Mingora, the main city in Swat, and seized arms and ammunition.
