A total of 32 sectors in different category including Steel, Cement and Aluminium industry have been conferred with National Energy Conservation Award for this year on the occasion of National Energy Consevation Day at a function in New Delhi today.The awards were given by the Union minister of Power Mr Sushil Kumar Shinde for their achievements in the conservation of energy. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Shinde said that all efforts should be made to ensure the optimal use of the available resources in order to manage the viability and availability of demand of energy and supply.He underlined the need for using energy efficient technologies for its conservation. Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister of power, Mr Bharatsinh Solanki said that the government has set up a target of achieving savings of 5 per cent of energy consumption by way of energy conservation measures by the end of 11th plan.Highligting some of the measures in this regard, he said that energy conservation and Demand Side Management,DSM is being accorded high priority. He said that an Agriculture DSM programme has been initiated in reducing energy demand in agriculture sector by use of energy efficient pumps as the sector consumes about 30 per cent of the total electricity most of which is for pumping.33 school children from varous states also received the awards for the National level painting competition for this year.
