In a tragic Diwali-eve incident last evening, 32 people were killed in a fire following a blast in a makeshift-cracker shop in Pallipattu town, west of Chennai. Police sources said, a blast ripped through the godown when villagers were buying crackers and the entire structure caved in. The blast was so powerful, that a nearby electric transformer burst, snapping power to nearly 50 surrounding villages. The Tamilnadu fire services director Mr. Natraj said the bodies have been recovered from the debris.Police sources said that three persons including the owner of the godown have been arrested.The Tamail Nadu Chief Minister has announced an exgratia payment of one lakh rupees to the family of those killed in the cracker shop blast. 32 people were killed in the blast.
