32 Community Radio Stations sanctioned in North Eastern States so far: Govt

Government has sanctioned for setting up 32 Community Radio Stations in North Eastern States so far. In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore today informed that out of the sanctioned stations, three community radio stations are now operational. <br/><br/>He said, as per the policy guideline for community radio-2006, eligible organizations can apply for permission to set up Community Radio Stations in any part of country including North Eastern States. <br/><br/>He also informed the House that All India Radio (AIR) is broadcasting programmes in 23 languages and 176 dialects throughout the country. AIR also broadcast programmes in 86 dialects in the North East and 10 dialects in the hilly states of Jammu and Kashmir, 14 dialects in Himachal Pradesh and 2 dialects in Uttarakhand. <br/><br/>Col.Rathore also said the policy guidelines allow Central and State governments to sponsor programmes on Community Radio Stations about government schemes and issues of public interest.<br/><br/>All India Radio also lends active and extensive support to Centrally sponsored schemes launched by the government including Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Swachh Bahrat Abhiyan, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Namamai Gange and Housing for All by 2022 and Demonetisation.
