The Government has set 31st October 2010 as the time line for implementation of mobile number portability service. Informing the Rajya Sabha today, the Minister of State for Communications, Mr. Sachin Pilot said, all the networks in the country have been technically upgraded for implementation of this service and the network of MTNL is in the process of upgradation. He informed that mobile number portability service will be implemented only after comprehensive testing of networks across the country. The Government had earlier set 31st March of this year for ushering in this service but the same was later extended to 30th June. The service will enable a subscriber to move from one service provider to another while retaining the same mobile number.
