In Afghanistan, at least 31 militants were killed in separate military operations by Afghan and coalition forces while militants killed five security guards in an ambush on a fuel vehicle convoy. Afghan defence ministry said in a statement today that 21 militants were killed during Afghan and US special forces operation in Kandahar, Logar, Baghlan and Ghazni provinces yesterday. Separately, the combined Afghan and NATO forces killed 10 suspected Taliban militants and detained a commander during an operation in Sangin, a district in southern province of Helmand. Meanwhile, the Afghan interior ministry said that five guards of a private security firm were killed in Ghazni’s Moqor district when they were escorting NATO fuel supplying tankers. The militants also burnt three fuel tankers. The Defense Ministry said Afghan National Army troops and national police tracked the militants who led the ambush and killed six in an ensuing gun battle. The fighters often attack Afghan and NATO forces’ fuel supplying tankers in Kabul-Kandahar high way.
