30000 people evacuated from J&K border areas amid continued firing from Pakistan

The overnight heavy firing and shelling by the Pakistan forces along the entire International Border in the State, has left 11 persons, including three BSF jawans, injured.

According to Defence sources, the BSF troops guarding the border, gave a befitting reply to the unprovoked Pak shelling. Pakistani troops targeted 60 outposts and 90 villages in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts.

The exchange of fire in almost all areas, stopped this afternoon. According to official sources, in view of the shelling, over 30 thousand people have been evacuated from border areas along International Border in Jammu, Kathua and Samba districts, to safer places.

Authorities are identifying more locations in safer areas to accommodate the people as more migration from the border villages is anticipated due to continued shelling and firing from Pakistan side.

The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today visited various relief camps and interacted with the shelling affected families and took stock of the facilities being provided to them.

The heavy firing and shelling by the Pakistan forces along the IB and LoC in Jammu region since 1st of this month has so far left eight civilians dead and over 80 others injured.
