300 pilgrims airlifted from Badrinath

In Uttarakhand, over 900 stranded pilgrims were air lifted from Badrinath in Chamoli district while 650 pilgrims reached Joshimath on foot.

With this only 300 stranded pilgrims have been left behind and are likely to be evacuated by Monday morning.

However, in Pithoragarh district rescue work of pilgrims in Dharchula and Munsyari through helicopter was affected throughout the day due to bad weather.

Border Roads Organisation has opened the national highway connecting Badkot-Rishikesh and Rishikesh-Uttarkashi for traffic.

Meanwhile, mass funeral of several dead bodies was carried out in Kedarghati region. So far 94 dead bodies have been cremated.

The DNA samples of those dead bodies which could not be identified are kept preserved. A team of doctors and Forensic experts have been appointed for this work.

The Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna said a 200-member team consisting of officials of various departments is being sent along with equipment to both Kedarnath and Rambada to extricate the bodies and expedite the process of their disposal.

He said the team includes officials from police, health, animal husbandry experts and sanitation.
