In Pilibhit constituency of Uttar Pradaesh polling is going on peacefully. Some villages of Puranpur area initially bycotted the poll pressing for their local issues.

However they agreed to vote when authorities convinced them. Uptil 12 O'clock around 30 per cent of votes were polled.

The security arrangements on the Indo-Nepal border district of Pilibhit has been tightened.

The main contestants from Pilibhit constituency are Maneka Gandhi of BJP, Anis Ahmed Khan alias Papu of BSP, Budhsen Verma of Samajwadi Party and Sanjay Kapoor of Congress
