30 Taliban militants killed by army, NATO air strike in Afghanistan

In Afghanistan, thirty Taliban militants have been killed by army and a NATO air strike in the northern province of Baghlan. Provincial governor Munshi Abdul Majeed said that Afghan police and soldiers clashed with a large number of militants in Ahmadzai village after they began a clearing operation yesterday. He said NATO bombed the militants, who were entrenched in outer areas of the village. The governor said a rocket fired by NATO aircraft destroyed a school, but there were no immediate claims of civilian casualties. There were no casualties among the Afghan forces. The militants are active in several districts in Baghlan and the neighbouring province of Kunduz, which are located in the otherwise peaceful north. NATO and Afghan forces began a major operation in the northern provinces in September aimed at rooting out the militants from the region. Meanwhile, one NATO solider died of roadside bomb explosion in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday.
