30 percent repolling reported in first two hours in 34 polling stations spread over five districts

In Arunachal Pradesh, 30 percent repolling has been reported in the first two hours in 34 polling stations spread over five districts under both the Lok Sabha constituencies and 11 assembly seats. The repolling, which began at 6 am, will continue up to 2 pm. Slow but steady-to-heavy and peaceful voting is reported from various booths. Initial reports suggested that voters had not turned up at Sissen booth this morning to exercise their franchise. They had refrained from voting on April 9th as well, demanding road connectivity to their village.

The State Chief Electoral Officer, Chandra Bhushan Kumar told AIR that the highest number of booths for re-poll, 12, are in Kurung Kumey district wherein disturbances, pertaining to damaging of EVMs, malfunctioning of EVMs and intra-party clashes were reported during the April 9th simultaneous voting for both the LS seats and 49 assembly constituencies.

Arunachal Pradesh has 60-seat Assembly. 11 Assembly candidates-all from the ruling Congress including Chief Minister Nabam Tuki have been elected unopposed following withdrawal of nominations.

The Number of booths in other districts undergoing repolling today are: Upper Subansiri-09, East Kameng-08, West Siang-04 and one booth, Sissen, in East Siang district.

Asstt. IG-Police, Tushar Taba has been deputed and camping in Kurung Kumey district to keep a close watch on the proceedings where voting was marred on April 9th. Besides State Police, CRPF personnel have been deployed at all the booths to maintain order during repolling. All security-parties have been provided with wireless connectivity.

The 11 Assembly constituencies concerned with the booths ordered for re-polling are : Bameng, Chayangtajo and Seppa West in East Kameng district; Palin, Tali and Koloriang in Kurung Kumey; Daporijo, Raga and Dumporijo in Upper Subansiri; Along West in West Siang; and Pangin in East Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh.
