The Direct Tax Code Bill, the bill to introduce Goods and Services Tax and the Whistle Blower Bill are among around 30 new bills which will be introduced in the Monsoon Session of Parliament, beginning Monday. The Civil Nuclear Liability Bill and the Women's Reservation Bill are also listed for consideration and passing. Briefing media on the agenda for the Monsoon Session, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal said that the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh had informed the Parliament that the Government will take up the Women's Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha after consultations with political parties. The Rajya Sabha has already passed the Bill. In reply to a question on the proposed Food Security Bill, Mr. Bansal said that the Government is still working on the draft of the bill. He said if it is cleared by the Cabinet, it will be introduced in the Monsoon Session although it is not listed in the agenda. He also said that most likely even if it is introduced, it will be referred to the Stand Committee of Parliament. AIR Correspondent says while the Government has proposed a heavy legislative agenda, the opposition will take on the Government on the issues of price rise, Indo-Pak Foreign Ministers talks held in Islamabad and various other issues.
