3 units at NTPC power plant at Farakka start cumulative production of 900 MW

Three units at NTPC power plant at Farakka have again started a cumulative production of 900 MW from today and another unit of 500 M-capacity is likely to be active soon as the availability of water in the feeder canal, reaching from river Ganga, has improved since last night.<br/><br/>A spokesperson of the plant told AIR that NTPC authorities were compelled to shut down all the six units of the plant earlier this month due to acute shortage of water needed to cool down the heated mechanism. The lull was utilised in maintenance work that has been completed at all the six units having a total production capacity of 2100 MW. The prevailing crisis of drinking water at the plant township has also substantially improved since last evening, the spokesperson informed.<br/><br/>Following the suspension of the electricity generation at the plant, power supply in Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Sikkim was seriously affected.
