In Jammu & Kashmir, three militants were killed and an army officer injured in an encounter between security forces and militants in north Kashmir's Handwara area in Kupwara district, which is around 100 Kms in north of Srinagar Headquarters. Huge quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from the possession of slain militants.<br/><br/>An army spokesman told AIR that specific input about presence of militant group was received yesterday morning and joint operation was launched immediately by Army and State Police blocking all possible escape routes in Krumhoora Zachaldara forested area of Handwara in north Kashmir's Kupwara district. <br/><br/>Sources said the encounter triggered off late yesterday night and one militant was killed in the initial fighting. An army officer was also injured who was immediately shifted for treatment whose condition is reported to be stable. <br/><br/>After nightlong lull, the encounter re-started in the cordoned area at the crack of dawn today in which two more militants were killed. Bodies of three unidentified militants have been handed over to Police. Huge quantity of arms and ammunition was also recovered from the slain militants. The Army have laid siege around a vast area to track down other members of the militant group suspected to be hiding in the dense forest.
