3 killed in police firing, UP govt orders inquiry

Uttar Pradesh government has ordered a magisterial enquiry into the incident in which three people were killed and two injured in police firing. Two people died on spot and the third succumbed to injuries in the hospital. Police had to resort to firing in Marwahi area of Etawah district after they clashed with the devotees who refused to listen to police during a Ram Navmi procession. The police was regulating the traffic. Our correspondent reports that the situation is tense but under control.Uttar Pradesh government has announced financial assistance of 5 lakhs rupees to the next of the kin of those killed and 50 thousand rupees for seriously injured. People with minor injuries will get a compensation of 20 thousand rupees.
