In Andhra Pradesh, three persons died and about 60 others injured in police firing near Sompet in Srikakulam District this afternoon. Police have opened fire on agitating local villagers who were protesting the commencement of construction works of a Thermal Power plant in the area. <br/><br/>Home minister Sabitha Indra Reddy said the police have observed utmost restraint and initially resorted to lathi-charge and tear gas to control the agitating mob. <br/><br/>However, when the situation was going out of control, they opened fire on the agitators. She said the injured included one ASP and 25 policemen. <br/><br/>She said the situation was brought under control and investigation was on to probe the cause of the incident. Chief Minister K Rosaiah, who is in Delhi, termed the incident as unfortunate. Meanwhile, all political parties have condemned the incident.
