Three people were killed and 21 injured in Dhanbad on Wednesday as police had to open fire to disperse a large protesting crowd which had turned violent. The injured were admitted to the Govt. PMCH hospital of Dhanbad. In Jharkhand, the police had opened fire to disperse aggressive protestors in Dhanbad, opposing the administration move to remove encroachments from the land of the Central Government PSU – Bharat Coking Coalfield Ltd. A large number of protestors started throwing stones, in which the SP and the DSP were also injured. All the shops on the major roads of Dhanbad were closed after the incident.On Tuesday, the Jharkhand High Court had observed that Central government PSUs in the state are not serious in removing encroachments from their land, and a team of High Court itself will inspect the progress made so far in removing the encroachments.Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda has ordered an inquiry into Wednesday's firing incident in Dhanbad. The inquiry will be conducted by Divisional Commissioner of North Chota Nagpur.The Communist Party of India has strongly condemned the indiscriminate police firing in Dhanbad. In a press release issued in New Delhi on Wednesday, the party demanded the resignation of Arjun Munda Government. It also demanded that 10 lakh rupees be paid to the families of the deceased and that those critically injured be also compensated.
