3 Italian soldiers wounded in Afghanistan

In Afghanistan, three Italian soldiers were wounded, one of them seriously in fighting with Taliban militants in western province of Farah today. <br/><br/>Italian Defence Minister Ignazio La Russa told a press conference that the officer was not in imminent danger of losing his life but he is in very serious condition. <br/><br/>The fighting took place near the northwestern town of Bala Murghab where the Italians had been engaged in an operation supporting Afghan troops. <br/><br/>The minister said the area had become very dangerous, perhaps because the forces weren't there before. <br/><br/>After the firefight, the Taleban also fired on and damaged the helicopter taking the most seriously wounded man to hospital.<br/><br/>Afghan and NATO forces had claimed to have claimed a commander and several militants in fighting yesterday in the same town.<br/><br/>In a separate incident in the Herat today, a suicide car bomber blew himself up outside the regional command, which is under Italian control. Three Afghan policemen were hurt in the incident.<br/>
