3 FTII students start indefinite fast, urge govt to resolve impasse

3 students of the Film and Television Institute of India Pune on Thursday afternoon sat on an indefinite fast urging the ministry to initiate a dialogue with them at the earliest and resolve the impasse. <br/><br/> Students of the premier film institute have been on strike for the last 91 days against the appointment of actor Gajendra Chauhan as the chairperson of the FTII Society and the nomination of four others.<br/><br/>Director Prashant Pathrabe, Acting Dean (Films) Kedar Awati and registrar U C Bodake met the fasting students in the evening. Director Prashant Pathrabe said that he has also informed the Ministry about the students' indefinite fast.<br/><br/> In the meantime, 186 prominent film personalities have sent a letter to the President Pranab Mukherjee requesting him to intervene in this matter. <br/><br/>The letter is signed by Vidya Balan, Mani Ratnam, Adoor Gopalkrishnan, Anand Patwardhan, Rasool Pokutti, Saeed Mirza, Buddhadeo Dasgupata and Kundan Shah among others.
