3 bodies recovered from submarine INS Sindhurakshak in Mumbai

The Navy diving team today recovered three bodies of missing personnel from INS Sindhurakshak. The bodies were recovered from the second compartment of the submarine 2 days after the search under the sea at the Mumbai dockyard. Our correspondent reports that after 36 hours of continuous diving efforts in unfavourable conditions under the sea, The Navy divers have finally reached the second compartment of submerged submarine INS SINDHURAKSHAK today. Three severely disfigured bodies were located and extricated from this compartment .

The bodies have been sent to the naval hospital, INHS Asvini for identification. With huge damage and destruction within the submarine and around the control room area, feasibility of locating bodies of other personnel in the forward part of the submarine seems very remote. It is feared that the high temperature within the submarine due to the explosions would have burn up the bodies too.

The Naval rescue team is now trying to reach the interiors of the submarine to locate and extricate any remaining bodies that may be still trapped within.
