3.2% increase in Agri growth in 11th Plan: Pawar

The GDP for agriculture and allied sectors touched a 6.6 per cent growth in 2010-11 which is the highest in the last six years. Giving this information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today, the Minister for Agriculture, Mr Sharad Pawar said this followed the corrective actions taken by the Government to boost the growth rate. He said the average annual growth in the agriculture and allied sectors in the country recorded a 3.2 per cent rise during the 11th plan period as against the targeted growth rate of four per cent. The Minister informed the House that the average GDP growth in agriculture and allied sectors during the 11th plan period suffered a setback due to severe drought in most parts of the country and deficient rainfall in Bihar, Jharkhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. He said a four per cent growth rate has been proposed for agriculture in the 12th Five Year Plan, now under formulation.
