2nd phase of Indian Census 2011 to begin from 9th Feb

The second phase of Indian Census 2011 will begin from 9th February. Interacting with the media persons at Port Blair, the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India Dr C Chandramouli informed that the world's largest ever census operation will be carried out across the country from February 9th to 28th, except snow bound areas. The population enumeration for the snow bound States including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakund has already been completed inSeptember last year. AIR Correspondent reports, in Port Blair, the Census Commissioner of India, Dr C Chandramouli categorically stated that the Census India 2011 will not be caste based. However, the details of SC and ST population will be collected during this census. He said for the first time information on transgender and date of birth of the citizens will be collected during this census. Dr Chandramouli said all out efforts will be taken to make this census more accurate. Hence the revision rounds of enumeration will be held immediately after the completion of the first round to cover the left out people. About 27 lakh enumerators will be involved in this gigantic exercise. Regarding coverage of the tribal population in Andaman and Nicobar islands, he said the islands primitive tribes Jarawas, Sentinalese and Shompens will not be covered during the first round of the enumeration. It will be decided by the high power committee constituted for the purpose. The preliminary results of Census 2011 will be declared on March, 25th this year.
