The second meeting of Communication Ministers of BRICS countries concluded in Bengaluru today, it adopted a declaration to encourage joint efforts towards promoting e-government systems among BRICS members. <br/><br/>Announcing this at the concluding session of the meeting, Communication Manoj Sinha said, BRICS Communication Ministers recognize the critical role of ICTs in improving the quality of life and governance for citizens. It was also resolved to embrace a common platform in joint research, design, development, manufacturing and promotion in the field of high technology products in Information Communications Technologies, ICTs.<br/><br/>The need to develop digital economy in a strategic manner by expanding cooperation in ICTs to address the challenges of inequality, unemployment and ensure distribution of digital fruits to empower people was also recognized. The ICT Development Agenda and Action plan developed by the Working group was endorsed to deepen, sustain and institutionalize BRICS cooperation in ICTs. The third meeting of the Communication ministers will be held in China next year.
