2nd Int’l River Festival begins in MP

In Madhya Pradesh, the second international river festival began on Sunday at the confluence of river Narmada and Tawa at Bandrabhan in the Hoshangabad district. AIR correspondent reports that rivers and pollution is the central theme of this festival.<br/><br/>Inaugurating the three day festival Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that a composite and balanced model of development is needed to save the environment. He said that centuries old Indian traditions and values would have a bigger role in it. <br/><br/>About 700 participants from various walks of lives including foreign representatives are taking part in the second river festival. They would discuss various reasons responsible for river pollution in different sessions. A blueprint for the future will be presented on Tuesday, the last day of the festival to save the river from pollution. <br/><br/>Cultural programmes based on river conservation are also being held during the festival. A sand figure made by famous artist Sudarshan Patnaik is centre of attraction at the festival site.
