The State Ministers including Geeta Jeevan and Senji Masthan flagged off the merchant vessel to Colombo, carrying 14,700 metric tonnes of rice, 250 tonnes of milk powder and 50 tonnes of essential medicines.<br />''<br />''AIR correspondent reports that  the Ministry of External Affairs is coordinating the handing over of the relief materials from the State Government. The first batch of the aid materials were flagged off from Chennai Port on the 18th May, which included over 40-thousand metric tonnes of rice, milk powder and medicines. The State Government on 29th April announced the relief aid to the neighbouring country which is currently facing economic hardships. Many individuals and organisations contributed to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to mobilize the relief materials. </span><br />
