A Bihar court today remanded the 2nd accused in the Delhi rape case, to police custody for 72 hours. Accused Pradeep Kumar was arrested from Barahia in Lakhisarai district early this morning in a joint operation by Delhi and Bihar police. He is being brought to Delhi.
Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar today made it clear that exemplary action will be taken against those policemen found lax in dealing with case. Briefing reporters in New Delhi, Mr. Kumar said that efforts are on to identify those police officials who reportedly offered two thousand rupees to the rape survivor's kin to hush up the matter.
He rejected claims that there was delay in registering the FIR in the case, saying it was registered the same day. The police chief however admitted that prima facie there were shortfalls on the part of the officials of concerned police station and action has been taken against them.
The Police Commissioner also said that second suspect involved in the case , arrested from Bihar, has admitted to have committed the crime.
Meanwhile the five-year-old rape victim is showing signs of recovery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
