2G: BJP stuck to its demand for JPC probe

With stalemate in Parliament between the opposition and the government on 2G spectrum scam and other corruption cases continues, the main opposition BJP has stuck to its demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe . BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitaraman said in New Delhi that party will continue to press for its demand in Parliament till it is met.The left parties though in favour of the JPC seem to have diluted their stand saying a comprehensive enquiry must be ordered to punish those responsible for the scam. Senior Left party leader Gurudas Dasgupta, however, said Parliament should be allowed to run smoothly. The Congress on the other hand says, that the party is against the opposition demand of JPC. Party spokesman Manish Tewari said that BJP is using this to hide its shortcomings. The government has already rejected the demand and held first round of talks with leaders of all political parties explaining them their position about the difficulty with regard to their demand. There is no official word on the second round of talks between the government and the opposition on the issue to break the stalemate in Parliament. The CAG in its report tabled in Parliament indicted former Communications and Information Technology minister for allocation of spectrum in a non transparent way and violating every canon of financial propriety. AIR correspondent reports that Parliament could not transact any major business in the last week as opposition stalled the proceedings in both the Houses.Meanwhile, Congress party says government would respond to the Supreme Court query on the 2G spectrum tomorrow. Manish Tewari said the Prime Minister has taken action in time and resignation of A Raja is a pointer in this direction. The Supreme Court yesterday asked the goverment to explain the delay on granting sanction to prosecute the former telecom minister in the scam.
