2G allocation: PAC quizzes Anil Ambani

Reliance Communications Chairman Anil Ambani and representatives of some telecom companies today appeared before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) which quizzed them in connection with alleged irregularities in 2G spectrum allocation. Mr Ambani was questioned for nearly two hours on various aspects including the allegations that his group received favours in getting dual technology license and his links with Swan Telecom. Briefing the media, the Chairman of the PAC, Dr Murli Manohar Joshi said, Ambani was frank in his answers except on a couple of questions, where he referred to being named in the CBI chargesheet in the Supreme Court. Mr. Joshi said, Atul Jhamb of Etisalat, Vinod Goenka of DB Telecom , S-Tel Representative Mr Srinivasan, Sanjay Chandra of Unitech and Charles Woodworth of Telenor were also questioned extensively regarding spectrum allocation and related matters. Mr Joshi said, as pointed out by the Comptroller and Auditor General in its report, all these companies were not eligible for licenses as there were several irregularities at different stages. He said, the modus operandi of all these companies was almost the same and they committed similar mistakes in getting the spectrum by changing the Memorandum of Association. Dr Joshi said, the representatives of Telenor gave the most vocal and direct answers to the queries of the members.AIR correspondent reports that the PAC had yesterday quizzed Tata Sons Chairman Ratan Tata and corporate lobbyist Niira Radia in connection with the 2G spectrum scam.
