2777 civilians killed in Afghanistan in 2010:UNAMA

United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) today said that 2,777 civilians were killed in Afghanistan in 2010. In a report, UNAMA said the figure indicates an increase of 15 percent compared with 2009. According to the report, a total of 2,080 or 75 percent civilians had been killed by anti-government elements, 440 by pro-government forces and 257 others by unknown people. The report also said that 55 percent of all the fatalities had been inflicted by suicide bomb attacks and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blasts.
