The judicial commission from Pakistan which is recording statements of witnesses related to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks case is expected to record statements of investigating officer in the case, Ramesh Mahale, Dr. Shailesh Mohit of Nair hospital and Dr. Ganesh Nitukar, medical officer of the forensic science department at JJ hospital in Mumbai today.
The panel will recording the statements during the in – camera proceedings at the Esplanade court in south Mumbai today. In the wake of intelligence inputs, elaborate security arrangements have been made by the police outside the court and in and around the hotel, where the panel members are staying.
The Judicial Commission began the process of recording statements of witnesses in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks case on Friday by recording Magistrate R V Sawant Waghule’s statement on prime accused Ajmal Aamir Kasab's confession soon after he was arrested.
Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam informed AIR that the in-camera proceedings at the Esplanade Court began yesterday wherein Magistrate RV Sawant Waghule informed the Commission that Kasab had, in his voluntary confession, narrated his role in the terror attacks. He also informed that Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S S Shinde had rejected the commission’s demand to cross-examine the witnesses.
Ujjwal Nikam had informed the court on Friday that both countries India and Pakistan had mutually agreed in October 2010 that only the witness statements would be recorded and they would not be cross examined.
