The 25th meeting of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council is underway in New Delhi.Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is chairing the meet which being attended by Finance Ministers of States and Union Territories. <br/><br/>During the meeting, the Council may consider a host of proposals to simplify filing of returns and registration of large entities. Among other things, the Council will review the preparedness of GST Network (GSTN) in handling the return filing process as well as for implementing the e-way bill system with effect from 1st of next month.<br/><br/>Earlier, Mr Jaitley held pre-budget consultations with Finance Ministers of States and Union Territories . The meeting was attended by Chief Ministers of Himachal Pradesh and Puducherry, and Finance Ministers and senior officers from different states. <br/><br/>The representatives from state governments presented their views and offered number of suggestions on various fiscal policy and budgetary measures. <br/><br/>Mr Jaitley stated that the suggestions made by the States and the memorandam submitted by them would be duly examined and suitably considered while formulating the Budget proposals of 2018-19, keeping in consideration with the spirit of cooperative federalism.
