25% syllabus should be allotted for skill development programmes: Kalam

Former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam has called for a thorough revamp of syllabus from 10th to Plus two level in schools to enhance skill development among school children.

He was inaugurating the “Siddhi 2020”, a skill development campaign by the National Service Scheme wing of the Kerala Vocational Higher Secondary Department in Kochi today.

Dr Kalam said 25 per cent of the syllabus should be allotted for skill development programmes.

He suggested that the Plus Two level students should be given an additional certificate for the skills acquired to enable children to become more employable.

He also suggested the creation of a Science Cadre in Central Government service to heighten interest in science subjects.
