In Uttar Pradesh, at least twenty five passengers were killed and over hundred others injured as Gorakhpur-bound Gorakhdham Express rammed into a goods train at Chureb station between Basti and Gorakhpur in the morning today. The relief and rescue operation is still going on. Six coaches of Gorakhdham Express were badly damaged while several others were derailed. However, railway officials did not confirm the number of the dead and injured.
AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that KK Vajpayee, Chief Safety Commissioner Railways, has been entrusted to probe the accident.
