Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Gulab Nabi Azad has said in Mumbai today that Union Government allocated Rs 2,400 crore for National Cancer Control programme during the 11th Five Year Plan. He said it before inaugurating a Mobile van for the Tata Memorial hospital's outreach programme in Mumbai. The Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare also said the amount, which was allocate by the Union Government, is ten times more than the previous plan. He said that focus will be given on community based cancer prevention and control strategies. Mr. Azad also said that his Ministry is in the process of establishing `OncoNET' (India), a network connecting 27 regional cancer centers and 100 peripheral centers to facilitate telemedicine services and continued medical education. Elaborating the initiative, Mr. Azad said that the 100 peripheral centers would be at the district level initially linked to the regional cancer centers. Expressing his confidence on the National Cancer Control Programme, he said that with the revised National Cancer Control Programme early detection and management of cancers in women would be accessible and affordable till the district level in the country. <br/>
