In Myanmar, at least 24 people have been killed and many injured in three explosions in the former capital Rangoon. The three loud explosions heard at a pavilion alongside Kandawgyi Lake as residents marked the New Year water festival. It is not clear what caused the explosions. The government has not blamed any group or indicated the cause of the explosions. There were no immediate claims of responsibility. The explosions come as Myanmar prepares to hold its first elections in two decades. Aung San Suu Kyi's party, the National League for Democracy, has already said it will not take part because of election laws which it says are unjust.
