23 killed in Iraq blasts

In Iraq, 23 persons were killed and 40 others injured in southern Iraq’s Diwaniya Province today. Iraq news agency reports said, the incident occurred when two booby-trapped cars targeted against the Province’s Council building exploded.Initially, a car bomb detonated near the gate of Governor Hussein Alwan’s home in the city of Diwaniyah, resulting in only minor damage and no casualties. When the police and emergency personnel gathered at the scene to investigate, a second car bomb exploded, causing the casualties. Sources said, the Province’s security forces have strengthened security measures following information on possible security violations. Diwaniya, the center of the province carrying the same name, is 180 kms south of Baghdad.
