23 arrested in Delhi for selling phones without ID numbers

In Delhi, twenty-three people have been arrested for allegedly selling mobile phones without unique identity numbers. A senior police official said that in a raid 1,000 such phones have been seized. Our correspondent reports, it is estimated that 21 million handsets are in circulation across the country without the 15-digit unique identity number, which enables the security agencies to trace calls made from or received on such handsets. It has been declared illegal to use or possess a mobile phone without valid unique identity number.<br/>
