In Uttar Pradesh, Chairmen for Zila Panchayats at 22 districts have been declared unopposed, most of them are supported by the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party Of them 15 are women candidates. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports, on the last day for withdrawal of candidature in four more districts including Rampur, Banda, Chandauli and Varanasi, opposition candidates withdrew their nominations. In Siddhrthanagar district state election commission has extended period for withdrawal by one day and it will be concluded this afternoon at 3 PM. Similarly in Kanpur, decision is still pending about validity of withdrawal of nomination. In remaining 48 districts a total of 116 candidates are in the field. In the Congress-dominated Sultanpur, newly set up Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj Nagar and Rae Bareli districts, the contest would be between the Congress, the BSP and the SP supported candidates. Polling will be held on 12th of this month .Voting will be held on the system of proportional representation through single transferable vote. The kith and kin of the ruling BSP leaders and ministers, including their wives, sons and brothers, are contesting the elections in a big way.
